Leading streaming media provider offers 600 free minutes of
Internet broadcasting
DALLAS – October 30, 2003 –
Masergy Communications, Inc. and RealCast Corporation today
announced the creation of an easy-to-use transport service
for high-quality Internet broadcasting. RealCast Corporation
of Miami, Florida, a leading provider of streaming media
services, provides high quality broadcasts for live and
recorded events across the Internet. RealCast is offering
600 minutes of free Internet broadcasting for customers
signing up for this new service.
By connecting its Broadcast Center
directly to the MASERGY network, RealCast has created a cost
effective solution for businesses to transport high quality
video directly to its production studio for quick
distribution via the Internet. This optimizes video
delivery over the Internet for multiple uses including
corporate training, distance learning, or special events.
The enterprise simply needs to provide a local connection to
MASERGY’s international network for immediate high quality
IP transport to RealCast’s broadcast Center. As a special
introductory offer to the service, RealCast is providing 600
free Internet Broadcasting minutes with the purchase of
MASERGY’s video-grade IP transport services.
“Businesses no longer have to bear the
time and expense of sending their broadcast video via
satellite or private lines to ensure the deliver of high
quality video,” says Steven Kimmel, president of RealCast.
“Companies can quickly deliver high quality video input
directly to our Broadcast Center via MASERGY’s advanced IP
network to get high quality Internet broadcasts.”
Traditional IP backbones were not
designed to handle the demanding performance requirements of
high quality videoconferencing, a critical requirement for
delivering live content from the source to the broadcasting
studio using IP videoconferencing equipment. Factors such
as packet loss and out-of-order packet delivery often result
in degraded video and audio quality. In contrast, the
MASERGY network ensures that video information packets
travel in-sequence and at the highest priority, end-to-end,
thereby delivering video-over-IP with guaranteed quality of
service (QoS).
Key performance metrics of the MASERGY
network for video traffic include:
- 100 percent packet delivery
- 100 percent in-sequence packet
delivery
- Maximum latency variation (jitter)
of 10ms
- Sub-1 second fast fail-over
(network recovery)
These industry-leading performance
metrics are possible because of the Class of Service (CoS)
and QoS capabilities inherent in MASERGY’s native Multi
Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP backbone.
“MASERGY is excited about teaming with
RealCast because of the quality and flexibility of their
solution,” said Chris Carr, director of video markets for
MASERGY. “We believe that this partnership will deliver
great benefit to business customers by giving them an
‘always-available’ method of delivering live content through
a cost-effective, high quality broadcast solution with
global reach.”
